In the year 2024, Basel hostet more than 1.5 million overnight stays. The city’s location in the heart of Western Europe makes it one of its most important transit points. Like many people, I had passed through Basel, but one day I decided to stay and take a closer look.
We wanted to travel to Sardinia by train – and we did it, mostly. In this travel diary, the journey became part of the destination.

Im Rahmen des Stadtteilhistoriker-Projektes der Polytechnischen Gesellschaft Frankfurt am Main hatte ich die Möglichkeit, zur Stadt Frankfurt zu forschen. Für das Projekt arbeiten Bürger*innen die Geschichten faszinierender Personen und Orte auf.
